"MEMORIES Of The MUSIC"

Do you have a memory you'd like to share?  Please feel free to post it here!

I send this in honor of Mr James Taylor, Principal in 1925.  It was his vision.

MGHB, class of 25

Dear ADOPT Board

Enclosed is my donation for the organ project at DHS.  I hope you are successful in raising the needed money.

I would like to offer my voice to any gala fund-raising or innaugural concerts you may be holding.  As a professional singer and former choral director, I am hoping folks will see the need to restore such a fabulous instrument!  I am interested in knowing how many DHS grads went on to music careers -- could the alumni produce a great concert for more $?

Good Luck!

Sincerely,

GO Class of '87

I remember Bernice Anderson, of our class, playing great organ music during assemblies in the beautiful Denfeld auditorium.  My contribution is in the mail.
Curt Warner  Class of 1947

Repairing the old pipe organ is a wonderful idea.  Go to it!

My husband R. H. was a member of the class of '46 and I know he would have donated to your worthy cause.  Sadly he passed away in September 2001.  I am enclosing a check in his memory to your cause.  I know he would want me to do this.

Having been living in the East (Upstate New York and now an island off the coat of Maine, Vinalhaven), I have almost completely lost track of Duluth Denfeld, save for the time when I attended the fortieth class reunion.  But the school has always remained very much in my memory; it was then and I hope that it is still a true and fine educational institution.  I have never been able to understand why my own kids were so bored in high school.

I am particularly pleased that your group is coming to the aid of the organ.  I played it many times in my junior and senior years for assemblies, Ms. Wee's Christmas pageants etc.  On graduation day I chose to march with the class to "Pomp and Circumstance" rather then play the organ.  I have no recollection of who played that day.  Anyway, the organ was a part of my Denfeld experience.  I hope you efforts are rewarded!

Yours very sincerely,  CE '35

I just received this today so have missed your 4/1/02 deadline.  Enclosed is my check in memory of : F & E J.  I have been going to send a check but have put it off also I was going to ask if there was going to be a Plaque and all my questions were answered with the material I received today.  The Brochure is very attractive.  I hope we reach our goal very soon.

Thank you.  Sincerely  AT

I hope my contribution will help in the great project of the restoration of the Denfeld Organ.  It is too bad that the deterioration took place over these many years but that is past and your efforts to restore will be rewarded.  As a graduate of the Class of 1938, I too recall vividly the sights of the graduation day but especially the organ rendition of Pomp & Circumstance as we marched into the beautiful auditorium.  Our class was so very much aware of the dark clouds hanging over as with the events taking place caused by the moves of Hitler and Mussolini & it wasn't long before we marched off to war.  Good luck in the worthwhile project.

Sincerely  EH

Hi!  What an ambitious project to restore the Denfeld organ!  I remember subbing for Judy Lindor-Arnold at an assembly in 1959-60 year.  The organ console was 4 manuals the - but a slow touch reaction.  Am presently organist at NCBC.  The organ is an electronic Conn.  A far cry from the Moeller Pipe I'm used to!  I took my pipe organ lessons at the old First Methodist Church in the mid to late 1960's from Earl Roland Larson.  The organ was a 4 manual Austin - the finest in the city!  I practiced on a 16 rank, 2 manual Moeller Pipe at TBC, a fine instrument!

As a person who played "Pomp & Circumstance" for her graduating class, I am very happy to contribute to the restoration of the Denfeld pipe organ.  I have many fond memories of Denfeld and especially of playing the organ.  ....This contribution is also from my husband, even though he is a Central Graduate.  (What does he know?)   Keep us apprised of progress and good luck.
