DENFELD ALUMNI ASKED TO HELP SAVE
THE HISTORIC DENFELD AUDITORIUM PIPE ORGAN
The Denfeld Auditorium Pipe Organ became a major part of the "DENFELD TRADITION" and for over 70 years, Denfeld graduates have proudly marched down the aisles to the grand strains of "Pomp & Circumstance" thundering forth from the pipe chambers of the DENFELD PIPE ORGAN. However, this once magnificent instrument, subjected to years of neglect, vandalism and leaky roofs, has now fallen into major despair. Please read the attached Brochure. Three of the Six Divisions of the Organ are no longer operable. The estimate for restoration is $260,000 to completely restore this once majestic instrument. After restoration the instrument would be valued at over $800,000!
There is something called the DENFELD SPIRIT and this SPIRIT is still alive and well! To prove this, we have formed a support group called A.D.O.P.T., A Denfeld Organ ProjecT. This non-profit organization is recognized by the State of Minnesota as the Official Organization whose purpose is to raise funds to completely RENOVATE and RESTORE the DENFELD MUNICIPAL PIPE ORGAN so that this GRAND INSTRUMENT will again become a viable and vital part of the DENFELD TRADITION.
The GOALS for A.D.O.P.T. are:
1) protect the instrument from further water damage;
2) repair and rebuild the instrument to its original working order;
3) provide finances for the perpetual care and maintenance;
4) arrange for organ concerts;
5) hire an organ instructor for students;
6) provide scholarships for promising organ students.
As a DENFELD ALUMNI, we ask you to take a moment and make a generous, TAX DEDUCTIBLE contribution to A.D.O.P.T., so that this great project can be completed within the next 3 to 5 years! The original 1926 program for the dedication of the DENFELD MUNICIPAL PIPE ORGAN states that the organ was "sponsored by the public spirited people of Duluth, Minnesota". In order to accomplish this $260,000 project, we appeal not only to your PUBLIC SPIRIT but more significantly to your DENFELD SPIRIT to help support this effort in any way you can so that hopefully within 3 to 5 years A.D.O.P.T. will be able to proudly present to DENFELD and to our community an enduring and completely restored, historic tradition. On behalf of the students, future graduates, school administration, and A.D.O.P.T., we thank you for your generosity in helping to restore an historic part of DENFELD'S PRIDE AND TRADITION.
Thank You,
Todd Sletten, Class of 1965
